Safe Tweeting Means a Happy Tweacher

Social media is such a large part of everyone’s lives these days, whether you are the teacher or the student. It’s very easy to discuss with students how to appropriately use sights such as twitter, Facebook and Istagram, but at the end of the day students have the ability to post whatever they want on these sights at any time. As a homeroom teacher I think its very important to monitor the sites that are in use for classroom purposes, and to set firm rules when it comes to what can and needs to be posted and shared.

An article entitled “Social media for schools: a guide to Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest: Using social media in schools doesn't have to be scary” gives a great overview of how its very easy to implement the use of these sites in classrooms in safe and useful ways.

For example, the article discussed how twitter could be used like a broadcasting account. If there is a specific website or topic your classroom has been studying, you can hook your twitter up to an RSS feed from the specific website that will automatically tweet a new article when its published. In addition, twitter can be used to remind students and/or parents about homework, tests and any other important events.

And I'm BACK!

Welcome back to the world of educational blogging! My Name is Holly Linklater and after about a year hiatus from my Edublog, I've decided to come back and continue on my journey of blogging. Through posts of information, links, articles and interactive educational resources it is my goal to gather a greater understanding for computer based technologies and the integration of this information within the classroom. Care to join me on my adventure? LETS GO!
